Each registered domain name has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a particular website hosting provider. That way, you have both your site and your emails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The former shows which server manages the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, when you type a domain address in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of another service provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having independent records for the website and the emails suggests that you could have your website and your emails with two different companies if you would like.
Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting
If you have a Linux cloud plan through us, you are going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Assuming that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify particular records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to another company if you want to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool will even permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you want to use the e-mail services of another company and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with simply a few mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You can even set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will permit you to view the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you complete control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
