Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the information exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for example, the possibilities are limited as you'll not have root access to the server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They are all actions which are performed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If the cloud hosting package which you’ve picked through the signup process provides SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this feature with a mouse click from your Hepsia CP. If you've selected a different plan, the SSH access feature may be added through the Upgrades menu and it will become available at once. The information you need to connect shall be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same place and you'll be able to modify it at any time. All the commands which are allowed are listed within the Help articles which we've prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you have to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can include it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. In either case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with just one click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can input the password you want to use, because it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you can also change it as much as you require. A complete list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a few examples. An extra function after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You shall be able to use SSH to control your content regardless of which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, as all our packages offer this feature by default. You will not need to include or allow anything by hand - the minute your hosting server is ready and you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login info, you may connect and start working on your sites or any software which you want to install and run on the hosting server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be separated from all the other accounts within the physical server, you shall be able to do anything you need with no restrictions. You'll be able to install any application you need and which shall work on a Linux-based web server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases easily and quickly.
